Butler Baptist Church was chartered on January 10, 1884, and convened in a new house on November 27, 1884, at 210 Church Street, now Peoples Street, with eighteen charter members. Groundbreaking services for our present church building, 113 Peoples Street, were held on March 23, 1958. Dedication services were held on Sunday, May 31, 1959.
Butler Baptist Church is continually ON MISSION for God. We collect shoes, socks, and underwear for the Northern Elementary Family Resource Center to distribute to needy children, and we participate in Samaritan's Purse’s Christmas Child Shoe Box, with 39 boxes collected in 2023. We continually support Sunrise Children's Service as they have needs, giving this past year sheets, detergent, and a picnic table, and we monetarily support them through our “penny march” for them passing the 27th mile in 2023. Each year, BBC adopts a needy family in our community, providing food and presents for their Christmas. In addition to this, BBC distributes monthly senior and regular commodities for people in need in our county on the second Saturday of each month, and on the fourth, we also distribute food and bread through our Neighbor Helping Neighbor ministry. In total we distributed over 500,000 lbs. of food in 2023. We also serve as an emergency shelter for River Valley Nursing Home.
Ministerially, we serve God through our participation in Butler Community Vacation Bible School. Through this event and the above ministries, we hand out Bibles, Christian videos, and Gospel tracts. As a church, we also provide Bible studies, Pastoral counseling, small group fellowships, and weekly Worship services for our community and surrounding area.
We do all of this to remove as many obstacles as possible in people's lives so they might clearly see and respond to the GOSPEL of Jesus Christ, spiritually GROW in Christ, and learn to GO for Christ. We praise God for the opportunity to serve HIM in Butler and the surrounding community.
